From the beginning of the porch being knocked down. To the rebuilding of my new enclosed porch. Dan and his workers were amazing people. Very professional and courteous people. Beautiful job from start to finish.

Dan and his team just added on a 12×12 composite deck to a existing deck at my home. It came out amazing and we are so happy with it. Dan and his team were excellent and will be using them in future projects, thank you Dan

Best construction company!!! Very responsible and professional. Always on time, always ready to answer all questions!!! Highly recommend to anyone looking either to build a house, to do extension, build a porch or something else. They do free estimates and do the job quickly.

Dan’s Construction just completed a Trex deck with two sets of stairs for me. I am thrilled with the outcome! Dan was pleasant and efficient in overseeing our deck project, his crew worked tirelessly to complete their work, despite bad weather and the issue of trash on my site…

I came across Dan’s Construction by accident while searching the internet and I’m glad I did. I read the reviews and checked out the company and contacted for an estimate. He was quick and professional and reached out enthusiastic to work…

Dan is super nice and easy to work with. His team worked all day to get our roof replaced which had damage down to the rafters. He is knowledgeable, fair and trustworthy. I highly recommend this company and will definitely hire them for future projects.

We called after seeing a recommendation on Facebook and we are very happy we did. We had them build a covered pergola off our back sliders, and since we live in a log home, we wanted rough hewn lumber. Not only did they order the perfect stuff…

Dan and his team completed a full replace of the deck, staircase and balcony at my home. From the beginning Dan was knowledgeable and responsive to my inquiry including being quick to respond to any changes to material or additional items…

Going up, or going back
Chicopee's postwar capes and ranches in Fairview are among the most straightforward additions we do: predictable framing, room on the lot, and a roofline that takes a rear extension or a dormer without argument. The mill-village two-families in Aldenville and Willimansett are the harder and more interesting case. Chicopee lots are tight, so the honest options are usually a rear addition or a second story rather than spreading sideways. A bump-out of a few feet can fix a kitchen; a full second story can double the living space. We look at the lot and the existing structure and tell you which of those is actually available to you before any design work starts.

Foundation, load path and what it lands on
A full foundation goes below the 48-inch frost line, and on a tight Chicopee lot the real questions are access for the excavator and how close we can get to the line. A second story is a different problem: it puts new load on an existing foundation and existing walls, so that gets assessed before anything is drawn. On a two- or three-family in the older villages an addition is as much a question of how the units are laid out and served as it is of structure, and that has to be settled before the foundation is designed.

So it does not look added on
The tell on a bad addition is always the roof. We match pitch, overhang and fascia depth, carry the siding exposure across, and keep window proportion and head height consistent with the original. On Chicopee's older housing that usually matters more than the finish inside, because it is what the street sees.

Setbacks, coverage and the permit
Chicopee's zoning bylaw sets the side and rear setbacks and how much of the lot you may cover, and on a tight lot that is what decides the footprint. Where the addition will not fit inside those limits the route is a special permit or a variance, which is a hearing and a timeline rather than a no. We file with the Chicopee Building Department and manage inspections through to sign-off.

Finishing the space, and the rest of the house
A shell is the easy half. On an older Chicopee house we are honest early about what the existing heating and electrical will carry, then finish the new living space properly: a new bath or bathroom remodeling where it ties in, updated finishes that match the rest of the house, and insulation and windows that give the new part real energy efficiency. An addition rarely stays inside its own footprint, either. As a full-service general contractor for home remodeling and renovations, we handle the roofing, siding, gutters, windows, doors, kitchens and bathrooms it touches, on one schedule with one point of contact.

Common questions about home additions in Chicopee
Will adding a bedroom affect my septic?
If the property is not on town sewer, yes, and it is the first thing to settle. Under Title 5 an added bedroom is a septic capacity question for the board of health before it is a building question at all, and the answer can change the design or the cost. Most of Chicopee is sewered, so this often does not apply here, but we check rather than assume.
What does an addition cost in Chicopee?
On a tight Chicopee lot the biggest variables are the foundation access and whether you are going up or out. A second story carries structural work a rear addition does not. We do not quote this over the phone. The estimate is free, done at the house, and itemized so you can see what is driving the number.
How long does the whole process take?
Zoning relief, where it is needed, is a hearing on someone else's calendar. Build time is predictable; approvals are the part to start early. The build itself is the predictable part; design and approvals are where the range comes from, which is why we start those first.

More about home additions in Chicopee
What an addition means on a Chicopee lot
Housing here runs to dense two- and three-family homes near the old mill villages alongside postwar capes and ranches, and the lots came with it: narrow, deep, and close to the neighbors. That is what makes the setback question the first one rather than a formality, because on many of these lots the footprint is decided by the bylaw before it is decided by you.
It also pushes the useful options toward a rear addition or a second story. Both are buildable on houses in Aldenville, Willimansett and Fairview, but they are different projects: one is a new foundation and a new roof tie-in, the other puts load onto walls and footings that were sized a century ago.
Chicopee grew up around its mills, so a good share of its lots were laid out before the current zoning existed and the house already sits closer to a boundary than today's rules would allow. That changes the approval route rather than closing it, but it is not something to discover at the permit counter.
Adding on in Chicopee
Chicopee's neighborhoods each set different limits on an addition. Chicopee Falls and Willimansett have older homes on tight lots; Fairview and Aldenville have more postwar houses with room at the back.
Fairview sits beside Westover Air Reserve Base, and its capes and ranches are among the easiest houses in the city to add to. A shed dormer on a cape or a rear addition on a ranch is a predictable build.
On a two-family in the older villages, an addition has to be planned around both units: who gains the new space, how each unit gets in and out, and how the heating and electrical are split. We work that out with the owner before design.
How the season shapes the build
An addition in Chicopee has one deadline the calendar sets for us: get the shell closed in and weathertight before the cold. That makes the start date matter more than it does on most jobs, because a foundation poured in May and a foundation poured in September lead to very different winters.
Interior finish carries the cold months and is the right work for them. We would rather give you a date that holds than the earliest one we can say out loud.
Zoning and permits in Chicopee
Work in Chicopee is permitted by the Chicopee Building Department under the Massachusetts State Building Code, and the contractor doing it has to hold a Home Improvement Contractor registration as well as a construction supervisor license. We hold both, and we file in our name, which is what puts the code responsibility on us rather than on you.
An addition runs two approvals in parallel, and the zoning one is the slower half. Setbacks, lot coverage and height come from Chicopee's bylaw, and where the design cannot meet them the route is a hearing for a special permit or a variance. We establish which case you are in before design work starts, because it changes both the drawing and the timeline.
If the house sits inside a local historic district, that review can govern windows, siding and anything that changes a street elevation. We check whether one applies at the start, prepare the submission where it does, and build to what gets approved.
