From the beginning of the porch being knocked down. To the rebuilding of my new enclosed porch. Dan and his workers were amazing people. Very professional and courteous people. Beautiful job from start to finish.

Dan and his team just added on a 12×12 composite deck to a existing deck at my home. It came out amazing and we are so happy with it. Dan and his team were excellent and will be using them in future projects, thank you Dan

Best construction company!!! Very responsible and professional. Always on time, always ready to answer all questions!!! Highly recommend to anyone looking either to build a house, to do extension, build a porch or something else. They do free estimates and do the job quickly.

Dan’s Construction just completed a Trex deck with two sets of stairs for me. I am thrilled with the outcome! Dan was pleasant and efficient in overseeing our deck project, his crew worked tirelessly to complete their work, despite bad weather and the issue of trash on my site…

I came across Dan’s Construction by accident while searching the internet and I’m glad I did. I read the reviews and checked out the company and contacted for an estimate. He was quick and professional and reached out enthusiastic to work…

Dan is super nice and easy to work with. His team worked all day to get our roof replaced which had damage down to the rafters. He is knowledgeable, fair and trustworthy. I highly recommend this company and will definitely hire them for future projects.

We called after seeing a recommendation on Facebook and we are very happy we did. We had them build a covered pergola off our back sliders, and since we live in a log home, we wanted rough hewn lumber. Not only did they order the perfect stuff…

Dan and his team completed a full replace of the deck, staircase and balcony at my home. From the beginning Dan was knowledgeable and responsive to my inquiry including being quick to respond to any changes to material or additional items…

A deck built around how the yard is used
Wilbraham's wooded lots and its ridge are what shape a deck here. On sloping ground the deck is often the only level outdoor space the property has, which is a good argument for building it bigger and properly rather than treating it as something bolted on the back. In Wilbraham the deck is usually the most-used part of the house from May to October, so it is worth sizing it to what actually happens on it: a table that seats six, a grill that is not in the walkway, a set of stairs that lands where people walk. Decking materials run from a wood deck in pressure-treated pine through capped composite such as Trex to PVC, and the railing and lighting get planned in rather than added later.

Footings, framing and the ledger
Ask any deck contractor what their deck construction detail is at the house wall. Footings bear below the frost line at 48 inches, the ledger is through-bolted and flashed into the band joist, and the joist span is sized for the load rather than for what fits the lumber pile. None of this is visible once the decking goes down, which is exactly why it is worth asking about. A wooded, sloping Wilbraham lot raises two practical questions before design: whether a machine can reach the back of the house to dig the footings, and how far the grade falls across the deck's footprint.

Railings, stairs, lighting and screening
Guards are required over 30 inches above grade and have to stand at least 36 inches high, and baluster spacing is set so a child cannot get through. Beyond the code, this is the part you touch every day: railing you can rest a drink on, stairs that are the same height all the way down, and post or riser lighting so the deck still works after dark.

Screened porches and sunroom conversions
Screening an existing deck is the cheapest large upgrade most Wilbraham homeowners can make to it, and a four-season sunroom is the version that adds real square footage. We build both, and we will say plainly which one your deck can carry without being rebuilt first.

Deck repair, patios and outdoor living
On Wilbraham housing the common call is a deck fifteen or twenty years old with a sound frame and worn-out decking, railing or stairs. That is a repair and a re-deck at a fraction of the cost of a new deck, and on a wood deck that is only weathered, a clean, a sand and fresh stains and sealing buys years. Where the footings or framing have gone, we say so. There is often room for more, too: patios, pool and hot tub surrounds, pergolas, gazebos and outdoor kitchens, planned once and built in stages.

Common questions about decks in Wilbraham
Do I need a permit to build a deck in Wilbraham?
For a new deck, yes. We file with the Wilbraham Building Department and manage the inspection schedule through to sign-off, so you never deal with the permitting yourself. Two inspections matter: the footings, before anything is poured over them, and the framing, before the decking covers it. Most Wilbraham lots have room for a deck inside the setbacks, but we confirm it rather than assume it.
What does a deck cost in Wilbraham?
On Wilbraham's housing the structure is usually predictable, so size, material and railing choice drive most of the number. Composite and PVC cost more up front and change what you do every spring. We still price it at the house rather than over the phone, because the estimate is free and an itemized number you can trust is worth the visit.
How soon can you start?
Spring and early summer fill fastest for decks. Later in the season is genuinely fine for the build itself and often easier to schedule. Call us early and we will give you an honest date rather than an optimistic one.

More about decks in Wilbraham
Decks on Wilbraham's housing stock
Wilbraham's housing runs to antique colonials near Main Street and large postwar and contemporary homes on wooded lots. Framing on houses of that era is predictable and well documented, which makes a deck here a straightforward build and lets us talk about real numbers early.
The more useful conversation is about size and use rather than structure. A deck that is deep enough for a table and a walkway past it is a different thing from one that is deep enough for a table alone, and the difference in cost is smaller than the difference in how much you use it.
The antique colonials near Main Street are the other half of this town, and there the deck belongs at the back with a railing profile chosen to suit the house rather than the catalog. Wilbraham keeps a rural edge along its ridge and orchards, and the houses out there sit on the kind of ground where the view is worth designing around.
Building a deck in Wilbraham
Wilbraham runs up the slope of Wilbraham Mountain from the valley floor, and a lot of its houses sit on that slope. Behind those houses the ground often falls away, so a deck that starts at the kitchen door can end up well above the yard.
Wilbraham & Monson Academy sits near the center of town, close to the antique colonials along Main Street. On those older houses the deck belongs at the back, with a railing that suits the house, and we open the wall before deciding how to attach.
The orchards along the ridge are a reminder of how open some of this town still is. On a property with a view out over the valley, a cable or aluminum railing keeps that view clear, and placing the deck to catch it is worth a few extra hours of design.
When a deck actually gets built
Deck work in Western Massachusetts is bound by the ground rather than the air. Footings have to go 48 inches down, so the build starts once the frost is out, and the calendar fills from the first warm week in Wilbraham as everyone has the same idea at once.
Late in the season is genuinely fine, though: there is no interior to protect, so a deck framed in September and decked in October is a normal job and easier to schedule. What is hard is a deck for Memorial Day booked in April.
Permits and inspections in Wilbraham
Work in Wilbraham is permitted by the Wilbraham Building Department under the Massachusetts State Building Code, and the contractor doing it has to hold a Home Improvement Contractor registration as well as a construction supervisor license. We hold both, and we file in our name, which is what puts the code responsibility on us rather than on you.
A deck is inspected twice: at the footings, before anything is poured over them, and at the framing, before the decking covers it. Both are ours to schedule and meet. The details inspectors look at hardest are the ones that matter most anyway: footing depth, the ledger connection and its flashing, guard height over 30 inches, and baluster spacing.
Why Wilbraham homeowners choose us
We are a family-run construction company of more than 20 years, working out of Ludlow and serving Wilbraham, MA every week. The same team that quotes the job runs it, which is the practical reason the quality holds. We hold the Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration and the Construction Supervisor License, are licensed in Connecticut, carry liability and workers compensation insurance, and are BBB-accredited with an A rating. Reviews come from Hampden County homeowners you can look up, and the quote is free, written and itemized.
